The design imitates the traditional stencil engraving technique called "Kiribori" in which round holes are made in a stencil, and patterns are created by combining large and small holes. In Kiribori, a round hole is made by standing a semi-cylindrical cone perpendicular to the base paper and rotating it. The technique only creates a pattern by combining large and small holes. This piece has a modern feel, using a design expression handed down in Japan since ancient times.
Our Tenugui towel are dyed by hand by craftsmen using a dyeing technique called CHUSEN.
