The tortoiseshell pattern is a conventional geometric design derived from the shape of a tortoise shell, and has long been considered a symbol of longevity, good fortune and good luck in Japan. It is also an auspicious design that is often used for special occasions such as weddings and celebrations of longevity. This tortoiseshell pattern is expressed in dots and dyed in a monotone color scheme, adding a twist to the classic yet modern impression that can be easily used or adapted into our current lifestyles.
Our Tenugui towel are dyed by hand by craftsmen using a dyeing technique called CHUSEN.
