Interviews with the Designer Team-About this 25 Spring Collection-

Here’s an interview with the design team about the Spring 2025 Collection. Let's take a peek behind the scenes of the production.

Q. How did you express spring through “Tenugui towel”?

A. There are many events that make you feel the change of season in spring, such as Setsubun, Doll’s Festival, National Cat Day, and cherry blossom viewing. The vivid colors of flowers and mugwort, and the subdued pink of cherry blossoms, which give vitality, are used to express spring through rich colors reminiscent of spring Japanese sweets.

Q. Please explain the characteristics of the spring designs.

A. When spring arrives, people want to go outside more and there are more opportunities to carry a Tenugui, so the characteristics are springlike flourishing designs with bright colors utilizing “Bokashi” (gradation dyeing), which is unique to “Chusen” (a dyeing technique). In the “Cat Day Tenugui” series, the “Covered in Cats” design delivers a novel and trendy impression, and the “Cat Pattern” has a camouflage style. The designs combine cuteness and modernity, allowing a wider range of people to enjoy them.

Q. Please explain points you were conscious of when designing the new “Strawberry Field.”

A. Since there is already the long-adored “Strawberry” design with a spring pattern, it was difficult to create a new design with the same motif, but we aimed for a design with a pattern that could easily be used as a decoration or tablecloth. We made careful adjustments to the shapes and sizes of the strawberries so that the Tenugui would be beautifully balanced when spread, delivering a more mature and refined feel.

Q. Are there any areas where you were particularly meticulous with the Strawberry Field design?

A. We gained inspiration from the joy experienced when you find a bright red strawberry that glows like a jewel in a strawberry field. The vibrant red of the strawberry is set off by the green background. The leaves are positioned rhythmically, and the veins of the leaves and flowers are depicted in detail. The delicate coloring and gradation unique to Chusen enhances the appeal of this design.
