A new 2025 design.

This tenugui is designed as a charm for family harmony and household safety. The motif is inspired by Dorei — traditional clay bells cherished in Japanese folk toy — and features a simple, heartwarming depiction of a parent horse and foal. Dorei are made by firing clay and produce a soft, warm sound when shaken. Historically, they have been used as talismans to ward off evil and misfortune, and their gentle tones are said to soothe the mind.
This design carries the wish, “May this year go well,” a clever wordplay on “go well” (良くなり – yoku nari) and “ring” (鳴り – nari). Zodiac-themed Dorei, in particular, are cherished as lucky charms for household safety and business prosperity in their corresponding year. The tenugui is hand-dyed in multiple colors, showcasing the artisan’s careful craftsmanship. It can be laid on a table or hung on a wall or shelf, bringing a touch of seasonal warmth and charm to any space.

Tradition Meets Craftsmanship

Each tenugui is hand-dyed by craftsmen using the traditional CHUSEN technique, which creates beautiful gradations of color unique to this process.

Enjoy Tenugui Fading

Our tenugui are hand-dyed with a generous amount of dye. With each wash, excess dye gradually comes off, and the colors evolve slowly. How you use and wash your tenugui will affect its fading, so enjoy watching it change over time.
