This tenugui depicts nekomata dancing in the dark. Japanese lore tells of cats who turn into yokai when they grow old, after being kept as pets by people for many years.
This tenugui humorously depicts these nekomata stealing tenugui and dancing. And Ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, who loved cats deeply, also featured nekomata in his works.
You can cover things with tenugui, spread tenugui out, and wrap items in them --- your imagination is the limit for how you want to use them in different daily life situations. The fine-pattern komon cloth is easy to use and especially good for summertime fun activities like camping and festivals. This design is packed with the charm of Japanese yokai, making it a wonderful gift item as well.
※The idea for this tenugui was inspired by an ukiyo-e print, but it is a completely original design.

Our Tenugui towel are dyed by hand by craftsmen using a dyeing technique called CHUSEN.
