This is a pattern we adapted especially for the tenugui format, based on elephants that appear in the animal sketch compilation Choju Ryakuga Shiki (Abbreviated Drawing Styles for Birds and Animals) by late-Edo-era artist Kuwagata Keisai. 
Choju Ryakuga Shiki was a popular art instruction book that humorously depicts the characteristics and movements of animals in simplified brushwork. Kuwagata Keisai was a creative genius who debuted as an ukiyo-e artist at 15 and worked on many actor and book illustrations under the art name Kitao Masayoshi. He studied the techniques of the Kano school, but also created his own art style. 
The elephants have long trunks and large ears, and are characterized by their powerful yet gentle appearance. Since ancient times, they have been revered as symbols of longevity and prosperity, and have been cherished not only in Japan but also in areas throughout Asia.
Hanging this tenugui on the wall will add an Eastern  touch to Japanese-style rooms.

Our Tenugui towel are dyed by hand by craftsmen using a dyeing technique called CHUSEN.
