A new 2026 design.
This tenugui features an immensely cute design based on the puppies on the cover of the Edo-era epic masterpiece Nanso Satomi Hakkenden (the story of eight dog samurai and a princess of the Satomi family in the Nanso region).
This is an epic novel spanning a total of 98 volumes spread over 106 books, which took author Kyokutei Bakin 29 years to write.
This playful design features animals freely swimming and diving among the auspicious nami-chidori (waves and plovers) pattern. Evoking the refreshing scenery of summer, it makes a delightful gift for those who enjoy festivals and seasonal events.
The traditional nami-chidori motif symbolizes overcoming rough waves, representing wishes for family safety and marital harmony. Because the word chidori echoes sen-tori (“to gain a thousand”), it is associated with good fortune, victory, and achieving one’s goals.
Recommended for:
- Those looking for motifs associated with good luck.
- Those who want to incorporate a light, spring-inspired design into their outfit, such as a bandana or short scarf.
Tradition Meets Craftsmanship

Each tenugui is hand-dyed by craftsmen using the traditional CHUSEN technique, which creates beautiful gradations of color unique to this process.

Our tenugui are made from cloth specially crafted for everyday use. Soft, absorbent, and smooth, they become even more comfortable to use over time.

Enjoy Tenugui Fading
Our tenugui are hand-dyed with a generous amount of dye. With each wash, excess dye gradually comes off, and the colors evolve slowly. How you use and wash your tenugui will affect its fading, so enjoy watching it change over time.
